How to use the Trip.com car rental promo code
The code is entered at the payment step, once you have chosen the vehicle and the dates.
- 1
Copy TRIPCAR5
The code applies to car rentals booked through Trip.com, in Vietnam and in other destinations.
- 2
Set Trip.com to English and USD
Use the selector in the top-right corner of the site to choose the language "English" and the currency USD before you book. One caveat: these codes were issued by Trip.com's French team and validated in euros. If a code is refused at checkout, switch the site to French and EUR and try again — that is the fallback that works.
- 3
Choose the location, dates and vehicle
In Vietnam, filter for offers with a driver unless you hold an International Driving Permit that Vietnam recognizes; elsewhere in Asia, check the excess and the insurance included.
- 4
Paste the code before paying
On the payment page, open the "Promo code" field, paste TRIPCAR5 and check the total before confirming.

TRIPCAR5Renting a car in Vietnam: what to know before you book
Vietnam is not a self-drive road-trip destination the way Thailand or Malaysia are. A 5% code does not change that; better to know what to expect.
- ✓
The International Driving Permit, 1968 version. Vietnam recognizes only the International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention. Check which convention your country's IDP follows before you leave: the United States, for example, issues 1949-convention IDPs, which Vietnam does not accept. Without a recognized permit, your insurance will not cover you.
- ✓
A car with a driver is the norm. Dense traffic, loosely observed road rules, signs in Vietnamese: most travelers rent a car with a driver by the day (expect $65 to $110 depending on the route). It is also the most common format on Trip.com in Vietnam.
- ✓
Useful for the rest of your itinerary. If your trip combines Vietnam with Thailand, Malaysia or Japan, a conventional rental makes sense again and the code applies the same way.
- ✓
For city-to-city legs, think train or bus. Hanoi–Hue, Hue–Da Nang or Nha Trang–Saigon are easily done by overnight train or sleeper bus, often for less than a day's car hire — and with a promo code there too.
Motorbike, train, bus, domestic flights: compare every option in our Vietnam transport guide.
How much do you save with TRIPCAR5?
The 5% comes off the rental amount at checkout:
| Booking | Listed price | With the code |
|---|---|---|
| Car with driver, day trip Hanoi → Ninh Binh | ≈ $88 | ≈ $83.60 |
| 3-day rental, compact car, Chiang Mai (Thailand) | ≈ $100 | ≈ $95 |
| 7-day rental, SUV, Malaysia | ≈ $300 | ≈ $285 |
Indicative prices in USD seen in October 2026; they vary by season, rental company and insurance options. The exact amount appears before payment.

Can I drive in Vietnam with my home driver's license?
Your home license alone is not enough: you need an International Driving Permit under the 1968 Vienna Convention, and Vietnam does not recognize 1949-convention IDPs (the kind the US issues, for instance). Check which one your country provides and apply well before departure. For a motorbike over 50 cc, the motorcycle category must also appear on your license.
Does TRIPCAR5 work on cars with a driver?
The code applies to Trip.com's Car Rentals section. When a with-driver offer is sold within that section, the code applies; airport transfers and tours with a vehicle belong to other sections, with their own codes.
Is the code restricted to new customers?
No, Trip.com has not told us of any account restriction for TRIPCAR5. One code per order.
