Where the buses leave from and arrive

In Hanoi, most companies pick up in the Old Quarter (at their office or your hotel) and some leave from Mỹ Đình bus station; a few also stop at Nội Bài airport.

In Hà Giang, buses arrive at the company offices in the town centre or at the bus station; many loop motorbike rentals and hostels are a short walk or a free transfer away.

Sleeper, cabin or limousine?

A sleeper bus has three rows of reclining berths on two levels, the cheapest choice for a night ride. A cabin bus gives each passenger (or couple) a closed pod with a curtain or door, a mattress and a charging socket. A limousine is a 9 to 22-seat van with wide leather seats: faster, fewer stops, often with hotel pick-up, but made for daytime trips.

Booking tips

  • Night buses reach Hà Giang around 3 to 5 a.m.: ask your hostel or motorbike rental if you can rest there on arrival.
  • Booking your motorbike or Easy Rider tour first? Many of them include the bus from Hanoi.
  • Bring a light jacket: the air conditioning runs cold all night.
  • Shoes come off at the door of sleeper and cabin buses; a bag is handed out for them.
  • Keep your passport, phone and cash in a small bag that stays in your berth.
