Long Thanh International Airport (LTH), Ho Chi Minh City

Cảng hàng không quốc tế Long Thành

Ho Chi Minh City is building a second airport at Long Thanh, in Dong Nai province, about 40 km east of District 1. It is not yet open to commercial flights: until it is, every flight to the city lands at Tan Son Nhat (SGN). Here is what has been announced, and what it will change for your trip.

In short

  • Not open to commercial flights yet. First commercial flights are announced for 1 December 2026, a target that has already moved once.
  • Long-haul international flights are expected to move first; domestic and short regional flights stay at Tan Son Nhat for now.
  • Check the airport code on every leg of your booking: SGN is Tan Son Nhat, LTH is Long Thanh.

Which flights will use Long Thanh

International traffic is due to move from Tan Son Nhat in phases. Long-haul international flights are expected to go first. Domestic flights and short regional routes (Cambodia, Laos, Bangkok) are expected to stay at Tan Son Nhat for now.

Dates for the later phases have not been announced. Do not plan a trip around them: rely on the airport printed on your ticket.

Connections: the split-ticket trap

A booking can arrive at one airport and leave from the other: for example a long-haul flight into Long Thanh and a domestic flight out of Tan Son Nhat. The two airports are about 40 km apart by road, with unpredictable traffic.

Check every leg separately. On separate tickets, leave a very large margin, or avoid combining the two airports.

Getting to District 1

The airport is reached by road only, via the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh–Dau Giay expressway. Taxis, ride-hailing apps and hotel transfers are expected at opening; shuttle buses have not been confirmed. No official ride time or fare had been published by October 2026.

A rail link is planned but not expected before 2030 at the earliest. Allow a long ride at peak hours, much longer than the 7 to 8 km from Tan Son Nhat.

Visa and e-visa

Long Thanh is not yet on the published list of airports where the e-visa is accepted. Visa rules themselves do not change with the new airport: check what your passport needs with our visa checker, and check the official list of entry points before you apply.
